Studio Class FAQs

Studio Class Frequently Asked Questions

What are your classes like? Is it like school?!

Our classes are relaxed, friendly and really informative. We’re passionate about sharing our knowledge and helping you unleash your creative superpowers in a way that you really enjoy. Our experienced teachers come from a range of background and all are skilled at teaching in a variety of learning styles including hands-on demonstrations, verbal instructions and written guides. Our classes follow a structure so that we can make sure you learn what you want to, but we won’t be standing over you like your scary needlework teacher!

I’m not sure whether to do an online or in-person class?

We’ve been teaching in-person classes for six years before starting to offer online classes. In one sense, they’re very similar in that they contain similar course content and your teacher is there on the screen for you to interact with. With online classes you can follow them at home live and watch back the recording afterwards.

Studio classes take place in our large fully-equipped studio where you can use all our machines, tools and have access to our supplies. Your tutor will be in the studio with you, along with the other students that you’ll get to chat to learn from and many sewing friendships have been formed!

Both options are brilliant, just choose the one that suits your location, learning style and social aims best.

How do I book?

You can book online here, simply choose which class and which date you want to attend and and pay using credit or debit card.

I can’t attend one or more of the sessions, can I still book?

You’ll get the most out of our classes and courses if you can attend all the sessions, but we know that life happens sometimes. If you are unwell or unable to attend a session, you’re still welcome to attend all other sessions in your course. Your teacher will try and give you homework where appropriate so you can catch up. If we have an alternative session already running which has a space, we will try and give you that option but this isn’t guaranteed – many of our classes are fully booked. 1-2-1 catch up sessions can be booked at an additional cost.

Can I cancel or move my class?

Class bookings are non-refundable so please ensure you are able to attend before booking. We take a lot of care to ensure our classes give you loads of knowledge and are really enjoyable and that take a lot of time. We also have to pay our teachers and buy materials in advance and keep our class numbers small which is why we’re not able to offer refunds. For the same reason classes are also non-transferable although you may send someone in your place, you just need to let us know their name and contact details beforehand.

If you can’t attend please let us know as soon as possible you may be able to book onto another class date instead, spaces/waiting list permitting plus an additional 25% administration fee, but please note this is at our discretion and not part of the terms of booking.

We need a minimum number of students for each class to run. We reserve the right to cancel or postpone a class due to low attendance, staff sickness or unavoidable emergency. These instances are very rare and we’ll always give you as much notice as possible. You’ll be offered a space on an alternative class or a refund.

Where are classes held?

All our in-person classes are held at our beautiful and friendly studio at Holme Grange Craft Village, Wokingham, Berkshire, RG40 3AW. Full information on parking, arrival times etc will be included in your class booking confirmation email or you can find details on our Contact page.

Do I need to bring my sewing machine?

We are proud to work in partnership with Janome, all our classes give you full use of our brand new Janome machines so you do not need to bring your machine with you. If you’d prefer to bring your own, you’re welcome to, but it must be in good working order, including any power cables and you will need to be able to carry it up and down the stairs to our studio.

I’m running late for my class

Please call 0118 4693545 to let us know. If you’re running more than half an hour late unfortunately you’re unlikely to be able to catch up so regretfully you won’t be able to join the class.

I’m coming to a class and want to purchase fabric/supplies, can I buy them from you?

Sadly we no longer have a fabric shop alongside the studio. We usually have a small selection of fabrics but these are limited so we would recommend sourcing what you need in advance of your class, or dropping us an email at info@sewisfaction.co.uk if you’re not sure.

Can I reserve a space on a class?

All classes need to be paid in full upon booking, unfortunately we are not able to reserve you a space without paying for the booking.

I want to book a class but you don’t have a date for it?

Our classes are repeated regularly throughout the year (excluding some with special guest tutors). If you wish to attend a class but there is no current date, please add your details to the waiting list on the class page and you’ll be emailed as soon as a new date is added.
