Online Class FAQs

Online Class Frequently Asked Questions

What are your online classes like?

Our online classes are live classes with a real tutor taking place at a specific date & time via Zoom. All our classes are relaxed, friendly and really informative. We’re passionate about sharing our knowledge and helping you unleash your creative superpowers in a way that you really enjoy and our online classes will help you learn wherever you are. Some classes will be designed for you to follow along with the tutor, others the tutor will demo and then support students practicing and answering questions. We adapt all our classes to the needs of our students.

I’m not sure whether to do an online or in-person class?

We’ve been teaching in-person classes for six years before starting to offer online classes. In one sense, they’re very similar in that they contain similar course content and your teacher is there on the screen for you to interact with. With online classes you can follow them at home live and watch back the recording afterwards, as many times as you need to.

Studio classes take place in our large fully-equipped studio where you can use all our machines, tools and have access to our supplies. Your tutor will be in the studio with you, along with the other students that you’ll get to chat to learn from and many sewing friendships have been formed!

Both options are brilliant, just choose the one that suits your location, learning style and social aims best.

How do I book?

You can book online here, simply choose which class and which date you want to attend and and pay using credit or debit card.

How do I take part in an online class?

We use Zoom to run our online classes and workshops and will send you a link a few days before your class. You’ll need need to download the app to your mobile, iPad or computer prior to the class, or you can access it via your web browser. There’s more information on how to do this here.

You’ll be able to see and hear your teacher via the video but you don’t have to show your face if you don’t want to! You can join in the class via video and audio or you can switch these off, whatever you choose. You can ask questions via the chat box if you don’t want to speak.

I can’t attend one or more of the sessions, can I still book?

You’ll get the most out of our classes and courses if you can attend all the sessions, but we know that life happens sometimes. If you are unwell or unable to attend a session, you’re still welcome to attend all other sessions in your course. Your teacher will try and give you homework where appropriate so you can catch up. You’ll be send a copy of the class recording to watch back and see what you missed and you can follow along in your own time.

Can I cancel or move my class?

All class bookings are non-refundable so please ensure you are able to attend before booking. We take a lot of care to ensure our classes give you loads of knowledge and are really enjoyable and that take a lot of time. We also have to pay our teachers and buy materials in advance and keep our class numbers small which is why we’re not able to offer refunds. Our online classes take place live with a tutor and a new group of students each term. For the same reason classes are also non-transferable although you may gift/sell someone your place, you just need to let us know their name and contact details beforehand.

If you can’t attend please let us know as soon as possible you may be able to book onto another class date instead, spaces/waiting list permitting plus an additional 25% administration fee, but please note this is at our discretion and not part of the terms of booking.

We need a minimum number of students for each class to run. We reserve the right to cancel or postpone a class due to low attendance, staff sickness or unavoidable emergency. These instances are very rare and we’ll always give you as much notice as possible. You’ll be offered a space on an alternative class or a refund.

I’m coming to a class and want to purchase fabric/supplies, can I buy them from you?

Yes! If you would like any help with choosing fabric & patterns for our classes, please pop in, give us a call or email, we are more than happy to help. If you would prefer to order your fabrics online before a class you can order and select Collect from Store at checkout. Please add a note letting us know which class you’re on and we’ll make sure it’s waiting for you, however we always recommend that you prewash dressmaking fabrics prior to your class to avoid any shrinkage and disappointment! Please note our shop isn’t always open during evening and Sunday classes so you will need to order in advance.

Can I reserve a space on a class?

All classes need to be paid in full upon booking, unfortunately we are not able to reserve you a space without paying for the booking.
